...and the stars shine upon their promised spangled banner....the minions watch aggrandized upon the spell cast...to worship those amazing few who lead the way... Anyone in pursuit of egoic fulfillment in this life, is apt to do anything to get what they want. Being a songwriter and a singer, I had a time in my life when I chased that dream, at a time when Winnipeg was turning out some major world class talent. I was not willing to make it with the gang, so I never made it. That was the big key phrase for the 80s musicians-WE MADE IT! When I walked into the agency here in Winnipeg that handles the entertainment venues, it was clear that they controlled every room in the city, and that of across Canada, and even some parts of the US too. Some bands and musicians were getting all the work-in fact booked years in advance at the best rooms in the city. The problems came for me with finding serious musicians, ones willing to step outside of the systematic grips to get some original projects moving. The same a-holes doing the same copied songs over and over again, dominated the scene. The thing to do back then, was to emulate the popular 80s tunes, to the best T one could. THAT was considered a good band. The industry is loaded with egos, assholes, bottom feeders and sabatuers, that were simply jealous, cliquey, or just looped into the demonic grips that controls this industry worldwide. I wanted to learn the innards, so I got into a local program that offered me a work experience stint at a local record label, run by a Christian family. They were no Christians. They took total advantage of the native people, mass producing their recordings with crappy end results, not even caring what justice they gave to these folks traditions-as long as the natives ordered enough product, to line their basement with. Tons of unsold music, someone paid for on a false dream. I tried to get a marketing thing moving, but...its like they owners liked all that product down there or something.... I dont know, maybe I will get a chance in this life to make some tunes. Maybe I will do it myself. Perhaps learning to accompany my own voice with the sounds of water moving, drumbeats, and rattles...Is just what a little grandchild needs.
