as you all know its been 100 years since the start of the first world war and i was wondering if anyone had any ancestors who served in the armed forces or did any war work of any kind as it would be great to hear any storys from that terible conflict....i had a great uncle who was a sergent in the worcestershire regiment and was wounded on the somme his name was Edward Clowes known as Ned and he was medicaly discharged sometime in 1917 he was also awarded the military cross but i dont know what for but he must have done something realy brave...i cant realy remember uncle Ned as i was only about 3 or 4 when he died but i do know he worked as a night watchman and that he drank a lot of whisky to help with the pain in his wounded leg and that when he died he still had bits of german machine gun bullets in his leg.....i also know that before the war he was a proffesional soldier again with the rank of sergent but was kicked out but when the war started he rejoined
