#cbcmar Some messy weather to get through at the start of this week before we see high pressure and calmer conditions Tuesday and Wednesday. This system is actually very similar to what we experienced on Friday so heres the breakdown. Periods of light snow continue this afternoon and evening tapering to scattered flurries for northern New Brunswick by 8 pm and southern New Brunswick by 11 pm. Additional snowfall amounts will mostly be near 5 cm with the possible exception of Saint John to Moncton which could see amounts closer to 10 cm. Winds tonight will turn northwest and be sustained near 20 km/h with occasional gusts near 40 or 50 km/h. The fresh snow, breezy winds, and temperatures well below 0 will create the possibility of drifting snow across the roads tonight. Periods of light snow this afternoon and evening tapering to scattered flurries by late evening, 9 to 11 pm. Snowfall amounts are expected in the range of 5 to 10 cm. Like New Brunswick winds will turn northwest tonight and will have some gusts close to 40 or 50 km/h. This is likely to create some areas of drifting or blowing snow. This may be especially prevalent on roads open to terrain like fields, etc... Temperatures will fall in the northwest winds both tonight and tomorrow, and by noon on Tuesday will be -10 or colder for much of the Province. Trickier forecast here, showers this afternoon will turn to rain and then snow this evening. The snow will continue for much of the night tapering to flurries between 3 and 6 am Tuesday. There are a few exceptions. Cumberland/Colchester Counties will likely just see periods of snow (especially the Cobequid Pass and north) as will the higher elevations in Cape Breton (Highlands in Victoria/Inverness Counties mostly). Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm can be expected generally in the province though local amounts of closer to 15 cm look likely for Cumberland/Colchester Counties on the mainland and parts of Victoria/Inverness Counties in Cape Breton. Due to the above freezing temperatures falling back below tonight and the change from rain to snow expect any slushy accumulations to freeze into ice tonight. This could create icy patches on the roads both tonight and tomorrow. Northwest winds with gusts of 40 to 50 km/h will develop by early tomorrow morning and temperatures in Nova Scotia will fall to a range of -12 to -6 by noon tomorrow. The cold northwest winds will likely generate flurries or snow showers for areas of the North Shore and Cape Breton on Tuesday. Be sure to leave a like to this page if you want to receive notifications when I make or update a post. Ive also been asked if I would allow people to post their own observed weather conditions on this site to make it a useful resource for anyone traveling around the region. My response to that is yes, absolutely! If you would like to leave a post to this page with a report, pictures, video of weather/road conditions in your area I fully encourage you to do so. Just be sure to stamp your report with the location, time, and date. Slides of the timeline for tonight and estimates on additional snowfall amounts are attached to this post.
