dear loving mother of: - a baby that..... isnt hitting her milestones, isnt the right weight percentile, isnt breastfeeding, isnt strapped to your back all the time, isnt sleeping through the night, etc - a toddler that..... wont potty train, wont eat whatever you give them (me!), wont listen (me!), bites other kids, is constantly putting themselves in life threatening situations (me!), etc - a big kid that..... is in the bottom of their reading group at school, is still wetting the bed, has an attitude problem, has separation anxiety, etc its okay. youre going to be fine. i promise. when non-moms, brand new moms, or veteran moms who just forgot what its like or never had a challenging child look at you and your kid and dont get them and judge and try to give you advice that you know wont work, just smile. then go home, snuggle up with your kid and fall asleep with them. the hardest years wont last forever, and youre not alone. kids arent perfect, no matter how well they behave in public. and their challenges are not a direct reflection on your ability to be a good mom. were just people. so are our kids. you are enough. you can do it, and you can do it without the pressure that culture (christian culture included!) is casting your way. after having one very easy child and then running the gauntlet with another, my entire perspective on parenting has changed, and i hope other moms like me can let go of that need to be perfect and for others to see it. at the end of the day, no one knows your kid like you do and no one loves them like you do. be free.
