excerpt. I was seventeen. Debris Pile Tulsans simply could not get enough parking lots, and were constantly demolishing great old downtown buildings to create more. Donald and I drove by the site of a fresh demolition and noticed interesting terracotta pieces in the rubble. We stopped to see what we could find when minutes later a guy we didnt care for pulled over and started picking through it too, so we went to a nearby pay phone and called the police. “There’s a crazy guy standing on the debris pile at eleventh and Denver throwing rubble and making obscene gestures at motorists!” I said. The police made him leave, and we once again had the debris to ourselves. Donald would tell his mom these stories. Sometimes she was mildly amused but other times she’d get mad about how awful we were. In those cases Donald would say Well, it was mostly Chris that did it. I just laughed.
