for those who are interested, here is the abstract for my talk at the Shaman Conference: Releasing Stress and Traumatic Memories Using a Combination of Modalities Jean Millay, PhD Now that the legal restrictions have been lifted, I would like to describe a very effective healing modality that I have used successfully for years. It involves the use of a simple biofeedback device that measures skin conductance and response (SCR), along with the use of marijuana and hypnosis. The first requirement is that both the therapist and the client must have a valid prescription for the use of marijuana. (Since I live in California, this is not a problem.) Beginning in 1974, with the development of the portable EEG phase comparator, I have been studying brainwaves in relation to various states of consciousness, whether induced by hypnosis, or by mind-altering substances. *[1] I was especially interested in exploring the EEG as related to the effects of various psychedelics. *[2] I have concluded that marijuana can be used nearly as effectively as the stronger psychedelics to advance the client’s self-awareness about his/her own healing (MJ takes less time and is very gentle). Events as intense as memories of birth, past life, or injury (even those that include strong fear and anger) can be re-experienced, along with the release of the associated tension. Smoking marijuana increases the production of alpha brainwaves for 97% of all the people I have measured. For most of them, it also increases their ability to achieve phase coherence between signals from both sides of the brain. A client who can maintain a steady coherent alpha, is more likely to respond to hypnotic suggestion at a deeper level. The use of the SCR feedback during the initial discussion reveals those issues that carry the most emotional content. So, before the use of Cannabis, the client chooses which of those issues to explore during the session. The hypnotic suggestions that I use encourage the client to realize that the power of healing is internally driven. The therapist is only a “guide.” Eventually, as the process is continued, a person can discuss an ancient trauma, without experiencing the physical response (adrenaline rush, pain and fear) that habitually accompanied the memory. The body can then facilitate the healing of injury, when the fear of injury is no longer interfering. Cannabis has always been a good medicine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *[1] Millay, J.
