ive been reading Remainder, To The White Sea and The Talented Miss Highsmith. i was also just thinking about how i never liked the film The Woodsman. because whether you think the main character deserves redemption or not the film creates a fake, only in the movies kind of salvation for the main character by having him go after another predator in the end. that kind of storytelling relies on lazy psychology. i would offer the Austrian film The Free Will as an example of a film which takes a truly tough minded and psychologically complex look at the redemption of a person who has done something unforgivable.
