science and tech what are gravitational waves? I think u all have an idea about newton, the discoverer of gravity.he is 200 years back to albert Einstein.newton when he thought much deeper about fall of an apple from a tree discovered that there is some force which is pulling the objects down towards earth.he couldnt explain the pulling force rather he named it as gravitational pull.when a man jumps from a height he is pulled down by earth.but what pulls him down?did u ask to your self? is his weight letting him down?then why a person falling free donot experience any weight?if a person falls free in an elevator,he feels weightlessness.this is what einstein explained. he worked on gravitation theory which was proposed by his adored teacher and guru newton.he visualized a person falling free from a height is not pulled by earth, rather he is pushed down by the space.(look at the fig i have drawn to understand better) .Gravitational waves are ripples that carry energy across the universe. They were predicted to exist by Albert Einstein in 1916 as a consequence of his General Theory of Relativity.the are very minute(even smaller than atom) that one cannot experience it.these waves carry vital information about how the universe began. In 1916, Albert Einstein discovered a mathematical way to explain gravity. He called it his general theory of relativity. It relied on a set of coordinates that described space and time together, known as the space-time continuum.it says that universe is a water bed type,if u exert pressure on it it exerts down pressure on water.in the same way universe is pressurized by matter and energy which inturn exerts pressure in space that leads to downward push of objects on planets through minute gravity ripples/waves. This can be used to give us information about the origin of the universe, known as the big bang.
