urdu Deserves Its Lost Pride: Pallam Raju #Bangalore:“It is a cruel irony that the language which was a medium of instruction up to university level of education during the period of Nizam is now struggling for survival. Engineering and Medical courses were taught in the Urdu language, now the language has lost that place and pride, its position has to be restored. Our ministry has been taking all affirmative actions to bring back the lost glory of this beautiful language. One of its efforts is reflected in the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL),” said Mr. Pallam Raju, Union Minister for Human Resource Development here while addressing a gathering here in the 15thUrdu Book Fair being held at Chota Maidan Shivaji Nagar. Mr. Raju appreciated the efforts of NCPUL made in reviving the art of Urdu calligraphy. He said he would sponsor an Urdu calligrapher to take part in the calligrapher’s exhibition to be organized by the UNESCO next year in Paris. Urdu being fourth largest spoken language in the world deserves all patrons from government, he said. Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, a great Islamic scholar and Vice-Chairman of Urdu Academy Delhi, urged upon the Urdu community not to relate learning of language with material benefits. Urdu demands your love from heart. If you love it, it will progress. While appreciating the book fair, he said, “The objective of this fair is not merely business but to introduce Urdu literature to the masses.” Apart from other dignitaries who visited the fair was Dr. M.A. Saleem, Police Commissioner of Mysore. He was delighted to see the huge collection of Urdu Books. “I appreciate the endeavors of the NCPUL in organising such a wonderful book fair,” he said and emphasized that such event shall be organized further.
