you may have noticed that your dog walker has been a little quiet on the blog and Facebook updates lately. I have been without my camera and now computer for a few weeks. But one of the main reasons I havent been sharing as many photos & updates as usual is that quite a few of our pack members have had a fair bit of illness and in need of a little extra time & care so I have been spread a little thin trying to juggle. Today though, was one very sad Thursday. I canceled almost all walks to spend a little quality time and say my goodbyes to our dear Dash. As you will all know Dash had been suffering from stage 5 lymphoma & degenerative myelopathy. While all his treatments had been showing a little improvement, as is the case of life with dogs, it was now at a point where the kinder thing to do was to say goodbye and let Dashy fall asleep one last time. With his mum, dad, baby sister, myself & friend Ali by his side, Dashy enjoyed all of his favourite treaties, hugs, pats and kisses in the comfort of his own home, resting on his big soft bed, where he slowly drifted off over that rainbow bridge. Such a sad thing to say goodbye to such a big personality in our pack. Dashy was a unique, gentle, sweet, loving, funny, stubborn, handsome friend who I will miss so very much. rest in peace Dashy pants xxx Below is Dashs last Facebook update “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” - Will Rogers Hi friends – I hope this finds you well! As you may know, yours truly - your Dash - hasn’t been his usual happy dog self the past months, and I just wanted to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and doggie treats. Mom and dad have come to the difficult decision to end my suffering peacefully. Looks like I’m heading to the great no-leash park in the sky! I can only hope there are lots of hipsters on skateboards to bark at, lots of sand to kick up, pigeons and myna birds to chase, and plenty of passing sirens to howl at! And maybe a few cute lady-dogs to wink at. This dog’s life has been more of an adventure than I could ever have hoped for! From the mean streets of Brooklyn – I’ll spare you those early details, they are a little hazy anyway, to a shelter where I had to sleep in a cage on the concrete and try not to piss off my grumpy cellmates (staying positive wasn’t so easy then, even for this guy!)… To the not-so-mean streets of Brooklyn – a nice big warm loft (with plenty of dance space, thank you) and an awesome new Mama and new Uncles and Aunties to love and take care of me - fun walks, late night off-leash runs through the park, a few scraps with meanies in the dog run, lots of treats and nice cool bathtubs and closets to jump in when I got spooked, (which I still did sometimes.) Oh, and the parties! To be young again!.. To another crummy couple of days sleeping in an even smaller cage (this time I was on a plane, though I never got a chance to peek out the windows or have a cocktail)… To a new life in Sydney - with my wonderful dad, mom of course, and recently a new baby sis! Of course, lots of human and doggie friends! More than I can count on two paws. I even had my own special carer that came over every day to walk and feed me while my mum and dad were at work. Her kabanosy snacks were my fave! I had the best times running on the beach, taking dips, meeting new people and pooches! What a wonderful way to spend my last years. I think I even picked up the accent. It’s been more fun than I could have imagined (and this ol’ brain of mine is sharper than you might think, though I did have a little help typing this.) I hope you’ll remember me fondly. I know how much you loved me. Always remember how much I loved you back. I’ll be seeing you at the park. Your good boy, Dash
