youtu.be/JC82Il2cjqA I dont know about the rest of you out there, but there came a time when I asked myself What am I here for? Really, why do I wake up and go to work? I mean making money cant be an ultimate goal. Come on! Im talking Wheres your heart at? and Whats your Passion Project? This came at a time when I used to watch my life go by at the office, and I couldnt quite grasp the sum that my days were adding up to. Until I landed an answer: To Improve the Quality of Life. This made some sense, wasnt such a bad proposition to start with. That was back in summer 2010. One major reason I accepted to take on the challenge of switching careers in 2013 and working in content creation - not such a distant cousin of advertising - is my conviction that education is at the heart of any hope to improve the quality of life and that with the absence of proper education in the schools and universities in Egypt, education will largely come through web video. It seems like an obvious conclusion, no? But youd be amused at the kind of content coming out in this region. Im stupidified every time I watch TV, or YouTube for that matter. Then I watch a TEDTalk or a Khan Academy episode to calm myself down. And then I am reminded that... We forget that we need to first try and fail in order to succeed. We forget that feeling of deep satisfaction - much greater than the persistent pursuit of happiness - when we actually learn something new. And what great gift it is to offer that to millions. We forget that while we effortlessly understand English, add and subtract, form opinions about the social, cultural and economic tensions around us, there are so many out there who cannot put two and two together, who cannot form a way to express themselves, or dont even know where to begin to look for information. To Improve the Quality of Life, I want to produce shows whose ultimate goal is educating the masses. Forget the blackboard method and think bigger for a second: the grander, more creative way of getting information across. Think eye-opening documentaries. Think social satire that makes you question what you do. Now, *that* is what I want to do. What about you?
