39th World Arbor Day observed in Srinagar ‘’Ann Poshe Teli Yeli Wan Poshi’’ SRINAGAR, MARCH 21: 39th World Arbor Day was observed here today at Police Public School Bemina organized by Social Forestry department. Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Mr. A.G. Mir was the chief guest and Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir, Mr. Nisar Ahmad Darzi was guest of honour on the occasion. The officers of J&K Social Forestry department were present on the occasion. On the occasion, the Speakers highlighted the significance of afforestation, the project taken up by J&K Social Forestry department in each district and Tehsils of Kashmir division. More than one lakh plants shall be planted on the day besides extending green cover over an area of 850 hectares under various schemes. 5.50 lakh cotton free poplars shall be raised in the departmental nurseries aimed at removing cotton shedding poplar in a phased manner and most such trees have been removed so far from the strips existing in National Highways and major roads. The identification of such poplars is in progress and these shall be removed in a phased manner. It will be pertinent to recollect the words of Sheikh-ul-Alam. Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Wali Ann Poshe Teli Yeli Wan Poshi. So planting a tree has been adored as the supreme Ebadah (Pious deed) by all the Prophets and Walis and this needs to be followed in letter and spirit by each one of us. Reporter Munif
