45 years ago this weekend was a significant weekend in my life. We travelled to Craven on the Friday afternoon, but on the way we called at two Organ outlets in Sydney to try or test out a new electric organ. We had an old pedal organ and I had started to play teaching myself. I could only play two hymns when asked by the salesman do you want to have a play, so I asked for a hymn book and played either Redemption Ground or Lord Im coming Home. We had been invited to Craven by the Weismantles old Bob and his lovely wife. It was an unforgettable weekend in the country. We went walking through the bush on the Saturday morning looking for elks etc. It was here that I was almost accidently shot by the rifle I had been given by Mr Bob W. as we climbed down a small rock face. Bob instructed me as to what to do with the rifle, but the vines on the rocks caused the rifle to move and slid back and hit the rock behind and fired. I was not a Christian, I knew where I would have been if it had connected with me, I was very quiet for the rest of the walk back to the house. Sunday morning we walked down the road to the little gospel hall, the church in the wildwood. That night we went to Waukivory for the gospel meeting through the bush opening and closing gates. Mr Tom Towel(otherwise known as t- towel) spoke but I cannot recall what he spoke about even though the events of the day before were vivid in my mind. I was enraptured with the photos of Beulah land on the wall of the old farmhouse. Monday(being Dads birthday the 6th) we travelled home and it was a terrible trip it was bumper to bumper back along the new expressway into Hornsby. It took us ages. That weekend would go down in my life story as a weekend of awakening, but I was not converted until the next Sunday evening, even though I was burdened about the matter the whole week. The song Redemption Ground and Lord Im coming home would be two hymns that would become a realty on the 12th. God truly is gracious, full of mercy and sovereign in His dealings and at the right time permits events to take place in order to bring us to the point of seeking God. Unbeknowns to me I would in a round about way be linked with members of the Blanch family through marriage, for one of Katherines( Katherine Ellingsen ) auntys( Carol Belford )was married to a Blanch.
