Anyone who has ever spoke to me about Lilys hospital stays knows that I absolutely LOVE the nurses here at the National Childrens Medical Center. These men and women are the kindest, most loving and compassionate group of people I have ever met. They serve the children and parents with such passion that I often forget that this is their job. Tonights nurse is extra near and dear to my heart because she has a single ventricle heart just like Lilys birth heart. Yes, you read that correctly...she is working as a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit nurse with only half of a heart!!! What she lacks in anatomy she surely makes up for with her ability to understand exactly what these kids are going through. She took the time to show Lily her brave scar, and Lily was so intrigued! Tonight was the first night since Lilys transplant that she did not cry and shiver through her chlorhexidine wipes bath. Halfway through, this nurse went to get a warm pack of wipes, because not too long ago she remembers exactly what it felt like to be wiped down with these freezing cold wipes. The sweetest part of the evening was when Lilys eyes got heavy and she fought sleep, her nurse placed her iPhone with the song Oceans by Hillsong next to Lilys pillow. She knows that Lily loves that song because that is Lilys baby sister Addy Hopes special song. Lily helped me create a video of Addy to that song during one of her long hospital stays here. Addy Hope was born forever sleeping two days before her induction day. Thank you God for arriving at just the right time to fill my empty cup to overflowing tonight. Eucharisteo
