As I reflect on the last 4 years of serving as State - TopicsExpress

As I reflect on the last 4 years of serving as State Representative for the 9th District I cant help but think of the incredible journey it has been. While I still have 2 years left I can only imagine what the road ahead must be like. Yes, Ive had some wins and some losses...that comes with the turf. However, I think the largest accomplishment has not been a particular bill, resolution or an appropriation for my district. The greatest accomplishment in my way of thinking is the relationship building within my own party and across the aisle. I have a lot of pride in knowing that I helped change the course of thinking when I provided Republican leadership with a tour of the real Detroit. They traveled the same streets i do and they sat down with my constituents to speak with them directly. My constituents told them AUTO Insurance. #1 issue hands down, make no mistake about it. I dont know the first thing about insurance, but I do know this. If I have the opportunity to serve on the insurance committee, I will offer the same type of creativity towards finding a solution as I did with many other issues that I have dealt with in Lansing. When I provided a tour of the district to Speaker Jase Bolger and Speaker Pro Tem John Walsh, they were able to see for themselves the impact of scrap metal theft. I took them inside of an abandoned drug house across the street from my familys home. They experienced the damage this does to property values in a neighborhood. A scrap metal bill that Rashida Talib had been fighting for over 3 years flew out of the house in less than 3 days after Republican leadership saw what Detroiters were talking about all that time. Im going to continue my bi-partisan work in Lansing. I know I will be criticized by some, hated on by others, but ultimately the people of Detroit and the 9th District will know State Rep. Santana did everything he could to make things better.
