August 14-- “At the Break of Day” B. B. McKinney, a pioneering Baptist church musician, was leading music for a revival in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1934 during the height of the Great Depression and the simultaneous period of the “Dust Bowl.” Sensing the anxiety of the folks of the region as they helplessly watched 100,000,000 acres of top soil blow away in dust storms, he felt led to write a hymn to encourage them. Here is the first stanza and refrain of that hymn. “Have faith in God when your pathway is lonely, He sees and knows all the way you have trod; Never alone are the least of His children; Have faith in God, have faith in God. Have faith in God, He’s on His throne; Have faith in God, He watches o’er His own; He cannot fail, He must prevail; Have faith in God, have faith in God.” May these words be an encouragement to you during tough times.
