Busia MCAs seek nullification of employment of County Assembly workers through court A section of Busia county Assembly members are planning to go to court to have the recruitment of Busia County Assembly workers nullified. Led by Finance committee chair Godfrey Odongo and Walatsi/Bukhayo North ward Rep Gerdy Jakaa, the MCAs say the County Assembly, which has failed to resolve the tussle over the illegal employ of the workers is not final, “We are not going to tire, we shall go to court so that the whole exercise is nullified and a fresh one done,” said Jakaa at a function at Igara. Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong who was presented said justice must be done so that every area of the County is represented. Ojaamong downplayed allegations that he employed more Tesos, where he come from, in his County Government, “What Gerdy and the rest are fighting for must be addressed and I hope justice will be done. This is what made Busia of those days not to grow because a few people were grubbing everything for themselves to their specific areas and leaving other areas to suffer. Some people accuse me for nothing that I employed many Tesos in my County Government, but when you critically look at it you will realize that there are more people from other tribes in Busia than from Teso.” He also called on Busia residents to be free to make their views to him on the performance of his government, “This county is bigger than an individual, if you see that I am not performing then you tell me I hand over the leadership to another person who can perform better. And if there is any worker/official who is not doing their work as required, tell me I dismiss them and replace them with a more competent person.” Last year Busia County Assembly service board chaired by Speaker Ben Wamalwa advertised in the local newspapers for 51 positions at the County Assembly but went ahead to recruit 160, with allegations that most of them came from Samia where Wamalwa hails and Lugulu ward in Butula where Majority Leader Jesephat Wandera, vice chair of the service board comes from. Reports also show that unqualified people, close relatives to the CASB (County Assembly Service Board) officials some who even didn’t finish standard eight were employed and are earning salary equal to that of graduates. However the County Assembly Finance Committee allocated money for only 51 employees and left out over 110 saying they were illegally employed and there was no money to cater for their salaries.
