Butuan City Butuans Finest Balangay Festival Manilou Abad ...I have read the post of Manilou Abad regarding his indignant opinion to the selection process of fashion designers to be included in the upcoming Mutya Hong Butuan 2014. Last years competition, Butuans Next Fashion Designer, gave hope and chance to the new breed Butuanon designers; and it is also a fact that Butuans top designers need protegee to continue and help improve the textile and fashion industry of our city. I hope the committee this year know the rationale and significance why that competition last year was started. That competition is somehow patterned to Miss Cebu City in which Cebus young fashion designers are given a chance to showcase their talent in one category of the competition, and this started even before 1990. The support given by Cebus local government put Cebus Fashion Designers at top in the national level like Carey Santiago, Philip Rodriguez, Furne Une, Anthony Romoff, and many more. If this years Butuan Balangay Committee could not continue the started competition (Butuans Next Fashion Designer), then those who joined last year competition, especially the winner, if be included as designers for Mutya Hong Butuan pageant is still a considerable good action. But, the indignation of MANILOU ABAD should be taken into consideration and be heard; giving an analytical thought in selecting a designer whose credential could not be questioned. That selected designer, if new, should have at least joined the competition last year, or his craftmanship have been locally/nationally published/recognized, or his works is undoubtedly original and excellent. Those top designers of Butuan included in this years Mutya Hong Butuan, their names and skills are already a foundation of Butuans Fashion; and gladly they have come back this year after years of being absent/missed out in Mutya. I am a friend to all new and old designers of Butuan, because it is also my dream that Butuans Fashion will be at top nationally and internationally someday. But, let us all start it with a good practice of fair and justice, set aside politics and political affiliation. Let this be all to Butuans Fashion Industry, so that somehow next year or the next coming year, Butuan City could have a formidable and united fashion designers association recognized by FDAP, so that we could send designers for national competition, because that is a requisite. There are lots of young designers from Butuan City who are studying in Cebu City and starting to make waves there, and they are just waiting to be discovered and recognized here in Butuan City, their own home city. And to the committee/s, I have no question to your credibility; and definitely you have reasons behind your decisions, and I respect that. This is just a plea message in lieu to MANILOU ABADS opinion in which for me has really a strong point to consider, and hope you will see that point too.
