Devotion, Prayer, And Bible Quiz “Food For The Soul” The Lord Is A Gentle Ruler [Matthew 2:1-6/KJV] Thursday, December 25, 2014 [Scroll down to answer “Bible Quiz” questions.] Devotion: In America, most people react negatively to the idea of a “ruler”—that is, one with absolute power—as a national leader. Yet this is precisely the word used to describe the Messiah. Quoting from Micah’s messianic prophecy, Matthew contrasts the insignificance of the town of Bethlehem with the majesty of the ruler to be born there. Then in the same breath he also balances the image of his powerful leader by describing him as a shepherd. Let us praise God that he appointed a gentle shepherd to rule over his people. Prayer: RULER OF ISRAEL, we praise you for your perfect authority. Your infinite power is matched by your gentle humility, as the King of Israel was born in a stable. Teach us to submit to you and live according to your just and loving commands. Amen. Bible Quiz: [Matthew 2:1-6/KJV] 1.)
