Drumcliff, Ireland, County Sligo. 5 miles north of Sligo Town, this village is host to a lovely old church/monastery called St. Columbas (Colmcille). The town is one of several possible locations described on Claudius Ptolemys early map of Ireland as Nagnata. A battle was fought in 1538 BCE by a Milesian king named Tigearnmas. The monastery was founded around 575 CE, and all that remains is a 8th century high cross and a ruined 10th century round tower (the only one in Sligo). The tower was struck by lightning in 1356. This is the final resting place of poet W. B. Yeats, who died in 1939. facebook/greendragonauthor #ireland #countysligo #drumcliff #yeats #greendragonauthor #greendragonartist
