FROM THE NEWSROOM: Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Kevin Sullivan is alerting consumers about a new scam about a new tax scam. Sullivan says that scammers are sending letters to people claiming they represent the DRS or the IRS. “The letter says that these government agencies have placed liens on the victims property,” says Sullivan. “Theyre then given an 800 number to call, and of course when they call the 800 number, the person doing the scam tries to put extra pressure on them” Sullivan says people should not be scared into sending payments to the scammer; however, Sullivan urges anyone receiving a communication claiming to be from DRS or IRS – which demands money due to a lien – to contact his department immediately.
