Greetings! I have just joined this group so although I see some of you know me, I will give you a little back ground. I am currently a private singing teacher and choir mistress at Whitsunday Christian College. I am also a professional singer/songwriter. My training is in child care and I have a lot of experience in running childrens programmes through the schools (St Caths as well) including musicals. My husband and I ran WARTS Theatre Group for 5 years. We also run music workshops etc and play local music festivals. It seems to me that there are a lot of people interested in finding an alternative teaching environment for their kids. I was wondering if we could have a current count of definite students (those who would jump in right now) because I am really keen to set something up before next term. I know I am only new and this is very presumptuous of me (apologies to founders of this idea/site) but I need this for my son as soon as humanly possible. (or like others I see, I will have to move my family to access a Steiner or similar schooling system) or he will see the year out in an environment that isnt awful, but doesnt foster his particular learning style/ability (so he makes little progress) until we can make a more permanent life choice. Can people please post the age of their kids and what personal availability they would have for supervision and involvement as well as resources available. Also perhaps how much they could contribute financially. It would probably be a good idea if people indicate strong needs/dislikes or bias areas early. I envision looking at the teaching resources available and perhaps setting up specialist teaching group/s to supplement our existing home schooling. Unless there is enough definite interest to do something bigger, for example, set up a more permanent learning space. I will start; Child/ren; Daniel age 9yrs (possible 15yr daughter as well) I can provide supervision/teaching time three days per week I can teach singing/choir & music theory, art and English/writing/lit. I have music equipment, my home and a small studio space that will be extended over the next 9 months. Comments; I believe in having a plan for schooling but tailoring it to individuals/small groups and spending time teaching long term life and creative skills. I am NOT anti-school just what is currently able to be offered in our region doesnt work for the specific needs of my kids. I am a Christian and believe in freedom of religion. Could anyone interested in trying to set up collective learning times or if you have constructive comments please comment on this post? I look forward to hearing from like minded people.
