I cant even quantify my 2014. I started it with a one way ticket - TopicsExpress

I cant even quantify my 2014. I started it with a one way ticket to Australia, and ended it with buying a house in Florida. I hiked Mount Fuji in Japan, mount doom in New Zealand (slash middle earth), and mount Rinjani in Indonesia. I went caving in New Zealand, I hitchhiked, camped, and lived like a vagabond backpacker around those small islands. I traveled the east coast of Australia and northern Japan with little more than a bicycle, tent, and a credit card. I lost track of time, I lost the relevancy of urgency, I rushed for no one. I went scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, I did yoga in bali, I surfed in Maui, I went sailing in Sydney, I chipped my tooth in Hong Kong. I serendipitously ran into one of my favorite people from college there also. I island hopped, motorbiked, scuba dived, snorkeled, and lived like a king in the Philippines. I saw poverty everywhere around the world, I noticed that most of the world is much poorer than my social network. I saw the impact that big corporations have on poor countries. 50¢/hour is despicable no matter where you live. I FOUGHT A MAN IN THAILAND. CAN I REPEAT THAT? I GOT IN A RING AND FOUGHT ANOTHER MAN. I got punched so hard my vision was blurry. I saw stars, great, big, skies full of stars on Fraser Island. I watched shooting stars on both hemispheres, and camped on both sides of the equator. I slept under stars in tents, I slept in airports, on buses, under conference room tables, in sheds, on floors, mats, and in big, luxurious beds. I had a birthday party with my favorite people in New York. Culture shock hit me hard back in America. I applied for a trip to Mars, I did improv in Melbourne, I did improv in New York, I caught up with an old friend in Kuala Lumpur. I won $100 in a night of gambling in Macau, I skinny dipped in Singapore. I learned the secrets of travel hacking, life hacking, and living efficiently, taking advantage of offers, going with the flow, and accepting help. I protested injustice in New York, I discovered my convictions were probably stronger than others. I bought a house in Pensacola, Florida and flew to Brazil (my sister works for an airline, btw) the same day. I got to visit Japan and Brazil in the same year, two countries Ive dreamed of. Despite making less money than any year of my life, I probably lived richer than I ever have. For the first time in almost a decade I spent both Thanksgiving and Christmas around my family. My 5 year old niece and nephews know me, instead of just knowing of me. I met too many amazing people to even begin to list, some whose names I dont even know. I made incredible friendships, even if they were short-lived. My 2014 was life changing because my 2013 was focused on doing just that. So if your 2015 resolution isnt focused on doing the thing you love the absolute most, and making your life the ideal version of it, I dont know youd even bother.
