Im just going to address this once, because Im sure without even looking yet that my timeline/wall is filled with concern, for which I thank you all. :) There was an earthquake just last week in Los Angeles that measured just over a 4 on the Richter scale. Im told that it registered at about a 2 as far away as Fullerton, where I live, but I slept through it so I really dont know what it felt like. This Shabbat we had 17 earthquakes in all, centered actually a lot closer to where I live -- Fullerton, Brea, La Habra, and so on, traveling basically from OMG RIGHT HERE to points northeast of here. The strongest of these took place at 9pm last night (Friday). It measured at a 5.1, which was enough to make me wonder if things would get bad (falling/breaking glass objects sprang to mind, since we have an awful lot of those). Orange cat, Vashti, got nervous and got up in my lap for comfort. Black cat, Shego ran downstairs so fast that she couldnt slow down, bonked her head, and ran back upstairs. We didnt see her again until 4am, at which time Hakim woke with another of the earthquakes and went looking, and finally found her in a place we knew she couldnt get into. Or, well, actually, a place she couldnt get OUT of. Normally a very chatty cat, Shego hasnt uttered a single peep since the 5.1 started. She is, however, responding to offers of petting and brushing and lap time, and shes no longer running or slinking in fear. Ive often wished shed be quiet unless something was actually wrong, but right now I would give a lot to hear her beeping at me. The actual damage: An empty plastic shpritzer bottle, a bamboo drinking cup, and Hakims bottle of hair dressing all fell over. No breakage, other than the ceramic tile that a friend of mine made us, depicting a cat sitting majestically in a window, which we normally stand behind the cats food dish so they can have some artwork with their meals. That slipped and fell and cracked.
