In a society every body being under the rule of law is paramount, so that its members enjoy freedom and equality.In our case it seems the law is in favour of people on power. Because the power is not yet given to people.had power been given to people we would have seen independent justice system, independent media, independent police and military. Hence in the situation where the rule of law is in the hands of few individuals it is unthinkable to promote genuine democratic system. therefore if we want true fair and just democratic system, the power should be given back to people so that people can establish institutions accountable to constitution and people.It is only then we can say we have genuine democratic system. Otherwise as long as we have justice system, police, media, and military on the hands of ruling party it is a joke to say we have democracy. Holding election in itself is not proper democracy. Here is one example to show you what happens when some one becomes Law himself. It was few years back in eastern Tigray in one wereda, there used to be a judge who known to be honest (hakegna) Then one day something unusual happened, mind you (mis degazmati mentemoagati) , the wereda administrator of the same wereda was brought to court for offence committed, to this honest judge and proceeding continued, mean while the court proceeding was going on,the eastern zone administrators was closely following the case as the guy was their colleague, including, lobbying /intimidating, the judge, however the honorable judge refused to obey the bosses and has sentenced the offender to be put behind the bars for few years. Look hear how some people takes the law into their hands. Two highest officials of eastern zone directly (without court order) went to prison and told the police we want take the guy as we want appeal for him and aging "mesdegzmati men temoagati" the police has released the offender without court order. This is the worst bit, then the honest judge was transferred to Homora as a way of unofficial punishment for not obeying the bosses. This is what happens when the authorities take the law into their hands. So we need supremacy of the law to reign and scratch my back so that I scratch yours to end. Fear the law but not the person.
