It is J.R.R. Tolkien’s twelvety-third birthday today! Even though he once claimed that his most well-known works of literature (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series) were not intended to be complete Christian allegories, those who have read them would agree there is undeniable Biblical worldview and symbolism leaking from between the lines of their pages. The author often openly expressed his view of the human condition, and perhaps we can see glimpses of this in his cherished stories. “We all long for Eden, and we are constantly glimpsing it: Our whole nature at its best and least corrupted, its gentlest and most human, is still soaked with the sense of exile.”-- J.R.R.
