Ive been thinking a lot about how its possible that so many African Governments can be so corrupt to the point of regression of entire populations... & then I started comparing my growing up to the way my own kids are growing up.... In my very patriarchal culture in every home everyone is treated according to a hierarchy, so for example as the head of my household I would be the one that always gets the best cut of meat, my kids would get the scraps, Simba would get a bigger and better share because he is a boy, I would eat on the finest China in my kitchen my kids would eat out tin plates and cups again Simba always getting the better of that & then if we had a maid which everyone almost has in Zimbabwe because the class system is that horrible... Well that maid would always get the worst of everything, she could never sit on the couch I sit on & now if I had a husband then he would be the one that gets the best of everything and I would be second in line until Simba became a man then I would come after Simba. & then we wonder why African leaders are greedy and power hungry and dont give a shit about their citizens as long as theyre living large. If we gauge the value of humanity according to a hierarchy then society will be f#cked up forever because some people will always be seen as more deserving while others are not even seen as human beings at all. My friends and family in Africa you have the power to change the way you think and the way you live. I share so much of my LIFE to say its really possible... Your kids are Simbas and Chidos recognize their HUMANITY & they too can be anything they want to be!!
