Jesus Barabbas or Jesus the Messiah? Lord, save us from Spiritual Jealousy and Spiritual Pride Jesus was condemned to death; a judgment driven by the spiritual jealousy and spiritual pride of the chief priests. It was customary for the Roman governor to set free a criminal on every Passover Festival. Since Pilate, the Roman governor, was warned by his wife regarding the innocence of Jesus, Pilate chose to leave the decision to the crowd. He gave them an option between Jesus Barabbas or Jesus the Messiah as one of the two had to be set free. Pilate was aware that the problem with the Jewish authorities was clearly, pride and jealousy.. Prodded by the chief priests, the elders in the crowd asked for the crucifixion of Christ and liberation for Barabbas. When Pilate asked the crowd to spell out Jesus’ crime, they had no answer but simply shouted ‘Crucify Him.’ When people overnight change their attitude towards us, with no plausible explanation for their hatred, they stand among the crowd who demanded the crucifixion of Christ. Pride and jealousy are the worst human emotions that want to see the destruction and end of another person. Worse still, is spiritual jealousy and spiritual pride as it is so very incompatible with the very definition of spirituality. Lord, save us from being victims of spiritual jealousy and spiritual pride. Lord, also keep us free from the negative traits of pride and jealousy. After all Lord, we all work selflessly for the same Master, for the same cause.
