Job Details LIVESTOCK PROJECT OFFICER Date Posted: Monday, 27 January 2014 Industry: Non Profit( NGO / Inter-Governmental) Employment Type: Permanent Location: MBIRE Job Summary ActionAid seeks a project officer for one of its implementing partners to ensure that the project is effectively and efficiently planned and implemented to achieve project goals and objectives. The position holder will be required to provide strong technical support and leadership in planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting of all livestock based programming in the field. Description Key Responsibilities Leads in the overall implementation and monitoring of all funded livestock related activities in Mbire district Mobilizes communities at the village level to participate in livestock activities. Monitors closely the performance of community based animal health workers supported by LGDA and ensure that they are effectively engaged in their roles Collects and reports on livestock based information at the village level and prepares reports for planning and program development Prepares monthly activity reports, reports on field trips, monitoring visits and assessments on the assigned program area and submits to the relevant line manager Keeps accurate records of reports on community animal health workers and provides feedback on their training and support needs Identifies and documents best practices in animal husbandry in order to improve the quality of programs implemented, key studies, success stories and such other information of interest Ensures communities and local authorities are well aware of all programs and fully participate in the implementation and monitoring of activities. Leads in collection, analysis and reporting of important livestock information and trends in the field to improve the quality of programs Creates and sustains linkages and good working relationships with other local and international actors involved in livestock programming to enhance coordination and sharing of experiences and best practices Requirements Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in animal science, veterinary studies or other closely related field. (Candidates with a requisite diploma in animal health science coupled with at least 5 years relevant experience in implementing livestock programs will also be considered) Experience: Experience in livestock value chain development and marketing will be a distinct advantage. Three (3) years relevant experience in general areas of animal health and production Other requirements and competences Proven ability to undertake community development work and institutional development in animal health, animal production and marketing Demonstrated experience in community mobilisation and training & ability to multi-task and effectively handle stressful situations Familiar with the development and operationalization of the livestock auction system Knowledge and understanding of capacity building in animal health, production and marketing Understanding of how to link program and policy/campaigns work Knowledge and understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes and the ability to collate and analyse data Ability to communicate effectively verbally and good written English and local languages relevant in areas of work Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, EXCEL spread-sheets, email etc. Applications: To apply, please submit a detailed CV and motivation letter to our offices at 16 York Avenue, Newlands, Harare to the attention of Human Resources.
