Meet orang-utans in Indonesia ‘Orang-utan’, in Malay language, - TopicsExpress

Meet orang-utans in Indonesia ‘Orang-utan’, in Malay language, means ‘Man of the forest’. It is among the most intelligent, but rarest of the great apes. Although endangered and found only in the remote jungles and rain forests of Sumatra and Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo, where their natural habitat is, it is possible to see and get close to these fascinating primates on FIT tours arranged by Go Vacation Indonesia. Tanjung Puting National Park is perhaps the best place to view, and meet, these irresistible animals in their natural habitat. Insiders know that the chances of observing orang-utans in the wild (as opposed to those in rehabilitation facilities) are much higher in Kalimantan, than the Malayan part of Borneo. Slowly cruising the narrow river arms that criss-cross Tanjung Puting on a private house boat, and then discovering a wild orang-utan from the observation deck is a one-of-a-kind nature experience. Recently, starting from Palangkaray (easily accessible by flight from either Jakarta or Surabaya), and cruising on Rungan river, there has been the addition of a luxurious “floating boutique hotel”, the Rahai’i Pangun, which can be flexibly booked as part of the soft-adventure trip of your dreams, ranging from 1-3 night on board, and other overnights during the land excursion portions partly including the exciting experience of an overnight in a tribal long house.
