Motorists, speaking to you as a cyclist, lets make a deal: when Im - TopicsExpress

Motorists, speaking to you as a cyclist, lets make a deal: when Im on my bike, treat myself (and all other cyclists) as though we are a motorized vehicle, too. At intersections where you have the right of way, proceed through the intersection. I know its a kind gesture to stop for me to let me through, but lawfully you have the right of way and Im simply waiting my turn to proceed forward when safe to do so, and Im quite happy to wait my turn. When you stop and wave me on, other drivers may not stop as you have and that creates chaos and a major safety concern; and who gets blamed? The cyclist. Also, its illegal for cyclists to ride on sidewalks and are subject to a $75 fine if caught doing so. This means if there is no designated city pathway I have to ride in a lane on the road, and yes, its legal for cyclists to utilize a lane no matter how annoying this may be to motorized drivers. Please respect this. In turn I promise to always ride single file, even when with a group, to shoulder check, signal my intentions and to be respectful of you in your vehicle. Deal? Thanks!
