NEWS UPDATE! Consult Suntai On Major Issues, PDP Tells Acting Gov; The lingering crisis in TarabaState over who runs the affairs of the state seems to have taken a new dimension as the Senator Hope Uzodinma-led seven-man fact-finding committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed Acting Governor Garba Umar to consult Governor Danbaba Suntai on major issues. The committee further directed Garba to continue to act, pending when Suntai would fully recover to take over as the executive governor of the state. Uzodinma disclosed this to journalists shortly after a crucial meeting between Suntai and other stakeholders at the Government House Exco chambers yesterday. He added that there was no crisis in Taraba State, sayingthat what transpired in the last couple of days was rather a mere disagreement between two families. Claiming that the contentious issue had been resolved, Uzodimma said, “We have resolved the issue, and it is just a little family misunderstanding. We don’t have crisis in Taraba State; Taraba State governor Danbaba Suntai is relatively very healthy, and he has no disagreement with his deputywho is now the acting governor. On the imperative of Garba totake directive from Suntai, Senator Uzodinma said, “And he (Suntai) is also in support of the fact that the acting governor should continue to act, and he should always consult with him and clear with him on major issues, pending when he is fully ready to take over the governance of the state; andit is agree able to all parties that Taraba is now one united and strong government.” Speaking on the health status of the governor, the senator said, “We have seen Suntai, and have confirmed that he is fit to carry out his responsibility. What the governor was passing through, for not addressing journalists, was the stress from a long journey from New York town to Nigeria.” The senator further said the administration of Suntai should not be seen as different from that of his deputy (the acting governor). It was gathered that the committee met with Suntai at the Government House Jalingo in the presence of certain electronic journalists while the governor was said to have recognized one of his course mates who was a member of the fact-finding committee. According to the journalists who were allowed access withcommittee members to visit Suntai in his private room, the ailing governor was happy during the visit and exchanged pleasantries with membersof the fact-finding committee, claiming that the governor said that those he had offended should forgive him as he has equally forgiven those who offended him. Meanwhile, a rowdy session has erupted at the state House of Assembly during a plenary on adjournment for arecess yesterday. The problem started when some lawmakers loyal to the acting governor wanted an adjournment for a recess until mid –October. But the development was opposed bypro -Suntai legislators. Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Haruna Tsokwa, had called for a motion to be moved for the Assembly to adjourn for a recess. But theMajority Leader (a pro –Suntai lawmaker), Hon. Joseph Kunini disagreed with the Speaker on the strength of order of legislative proceedings. ------------------------------------------
