So today daughter Becky came home to visit from Pittsburgh and wanted to go to the Amish Fruit Market down the road from our house. On our way out the dirt road that leads to the market, we could see a young man on a horse riding very fast towards us. He stopped us and asked if we could call someone. Becky had her cell phone and asked him who he wanted us to call. He said he needed help, that his brother was in the field unconscious. Becky called 911 and went thru the field to the boy while John and I waited for ambulance. The young boy had been dragged thru the field. The equipment he was using broke and the horses got spooked and ran dragging him. He was unconscious when Becky got to him. He heart rate was strong, but breathing shallow. She assessed his injuries and reported them to the 911 operator, then stayed with him until EMTs arrived. He was bleeding from the back of his head, and his back was scraped very badly from being dragged. He had a lot of bruising also. To make a very long story, not too long, the EMTs stabilized him and rushed him to UPMC Altoona. By the way his name is Andrew and he is only 12 years old. Please say a prayer for this young man and his family.
