The YPG/YPJ resistance in Kobanê is now in its 14th day. Clashes have intensified in particular in the last week on three fronts, but on the southern front there has been constant fighting since 15 September. Andok Kobanê, the Southern front commander in the Kobanê canton, which has been under attack since 15 September, said after a great resistance the initiative is now with the YPG. He said: Tanks, artillery and rockets have been defeated by the unshakable belief of the YPG fighters. They are bound to come off second best. Serxwebun Amed, Xwinda Tirej and Dicle Amara, who have been involved in the fighting on the southern front, said: We will never allow DAISH (ISIS) to pass. Front commander: Initiative is now with the YPG YPG southern front commander, Andok Kobanê, said a great resistance had been put up against ISIS attacks, and that after the gangs were routed in their latest attack the initiative is now with the YPG fighters. Andok Kobanê added that ISIS had launched 4 major attacks since 15 September, but that the YPG had come out on top every time. Andok Kobanês final words were of a character that could apply to the battle of Kobanê: They came with tanks, artillery and rockets, but were defeated every time by the unshakable belief of the YPG fighters. They are bound to come off second best. We will teach them such a lesson that... YPJ fighter Dicle Amara said they had not left their positions for days, adding that what kept them going was the popular resistance. She said: the ISIS gangs wanted to enter Kobanê and carry out a massacre. But they can only do that if we all die. We will defend our land and the honour of the Kurds to the end. We are fighting imbued with the spirit of comradeship and will power. Every comrade we lose means we have a responsibility to step up the struggle even more. We will teach ISIS such a lesson that they will not be able to mention the Kurds or the name of Kobanê again. The women are resisting heroically YPJ fighter Xwindar Tirêj said: In clashes with ISIS the key factor in our success with just AK47s against the modern heavy weaponry of ISIS is our comrades devotion and loyalty to each other. She continued: The ISIS gangs are a barbarous gang that are enemies of women in particular. One day we were surrounded and a comrade sacrificed herself. I have witnessed heroic resistance from women during these clashes. YPG fighter Serxwebun Amed said that a historic resistance was continuing on all fronts, not just on the southern front, adding: We are fighting with a great solidarity. The people of Kobanê and Kurdistan should rest assured that we will not allow ISIS to pass.
