The word motivate. Means in the simplest terms; to cause someone/something to act. Incitement, move, provoke... Its root word is motive has the same etymology as the musical term motif. These words are synonyms. When people ask me about songwriting... This is my jumping off point. God said to me and youve read it on some posts before... All songs are written to the glory of a thing. (Thats mine dont steal it already been copy written) lol So that speaks to our motives. I think money has changed the quality of our songs greatly. Writers and musicians that call themselves song writers have seen Mammon and he drives a white escalade with 26 black rims. (Sigh) lol So now placements become the goal... And before this feels extra preachy and judgey my point is Write songs that can be placed in heaven, placed before God as an offering, placed in the heart of the broken and the hopeless... In the minds of a dying and Godless generation... Not just a placement in a record.. Write for eternal not the ephemeral.
