There is an increasingly overwhelming evidence for dysfunctional christian organisations. Such organisations, in the name of churches do not lead people to salvation but elsewhere. And probably that is why despite the ever increasing number of churches popping up left and right, the society is still largely without virtues. I believe it is important for every professing christian to constantly reevaluate their knowledge, practices and acts against the holy scriptures just to make sure that they are in the right direction as the bible calls us to do in 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV) Examine yourselves, whether you are in the faith; prove your own selves. Know you are not your own selves, how that Jesus is in you, unless you are counterfeits? I believe that the more presumptuous a christian becomes and acts, the more worried they should be, since presumption is a precursor for downfall and deception. When someone believes that they have believed all there is to believe and that they are firmly anchored as not to see any potential danger in their vicinity, then it is impossible not to imagine a looming downfall. 1 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV) Therefore let him that thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. Churches should be Christ-centered and not personality-centered. They should be about the Person of Jesus. Let us praise only God and give him all the glory and honor. It is easy for men, even genuine servants of God to replace Jesus in the church when Christians get obsessed with their leaders and forget that they ought to be Christ-centered. It is important for everything uttered by anyone be measured and valued against the holy scriptures, doesnt matter what personality does the utterance. Therefore, I would be careful about any Christian group that exhibits any of the following characteristics: 1) Progressive Isolation, whether done directly or indirectly. Those who display We are the only ones attitude and that every other group is wrong. 2) Lack of individualism, where group-centered is the mantra though person-centered is the structure. 3) Attempt to isolate from others including friends and relatives. 4) Leader-centered rather than Christ-centered, where it is the leaders who speak and not the word of God. 5) Dominant dictatorial leadership is practiced, authority seated in the leader. 6) Questions are considered a lack of faith while blind obedient is viewed as loyalty. 7) Minimal listing of scripture reference, in this case the teachings are like talks than expositional presentation of the word. 8) The normal understanding of biblical words is distorted or changed or a spiritual translation is implied directly or indirectly 8) The term God, which is simply a title for deity is mainly used as opposed to the name of Jesus Christ. 9) Ritualistic worship is practiced and Repetitive Chanting encouraged which lacks scriptural basis or reference. 10) The bible is simply a tool where verses are references for talks rather than biblical teaching with multiple verses used to link together biblical doctrines. 11) God and the bible are used as props rather than the center of attention. 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about , seeking whom he may devour.
