This is a message we received in response to my post last night. Wanted to share it with everyone. To reply back to Mavericks status: I agree dispatchers should be trained in those types of things. Due to this happening: It was my officer and I working on August 20th, we usually have two officers but one was on vacation. It was 2355 I heard glass break, I looked out my East facing window and see a male subject having an object in his hand and breaking the second window. I ran for cover, yelling to the officer for help. I didnt grab my phone, radio, nothing. My officer stood by the officers door (feet away from the main door for the subject to make entry into the department) while I called our County for assistance. The subject was throwing items and yelling for us to get the f*** out here for at least 2-4 minutes. It went silent for a couple of seconds and my officer made his way into dispatch (from the officers room to the dispatch is maybe 3 feet across the hallway) by pushing the front window out. Officer pulled his taser and the taser didnt do much to him expect piss him off more. He attacked my officer in dispatch and they fought for about 8-10 feet into the hallway and in front of the officers room, where I was face to face with my officer fighting with the subject to get him into handcuffs. As everything was happening I was telling County over the phone what the officer was telling me, they had it recorded. After 7 minutes from beginning of the call to the end two County units where on station along with one state unit. My officer walked away with a bruise and a mild headache, and I walked away with no injuries, only the mental distress. After getting Chief, Dispatch Supervisor, and Sargent on station I realized the damage that was done. Two outside glass windows were broken with two different bricks. Officers squad window smashed with a brick and paint taken off the side due to the brick falling down. Inside damage was as follows: dispatch window x2, and entry door (two inch wooden door split from a chair being thrown at it). My parents showed up when Chief did (due to my father being a fireman he had a radio listening to the whole incident) and my father helped board up the windows and help repair the damage. Everything was cleaned up and repaired by 0330 and everyone had left. We stayed on shift together the rest of the night and helped each other through probably the worst day of our lives. The next day we found out the phone was taken off the hook in dispatch; our phones in dispatch recorded every phone call taken. With both phone recordings, damage of the station, he was charged with approx 3 felonies and 5 misdemeanors. Also he was interviewed by a County unit stating that he was just mad. It is not set in stone what he will be charged with until this coming Tuesday (10/14/2014). The department talked about it and dispatchers were taught how to use spray. Taser class is in January, and possibly a defensive class (not sure if thats the technical name for it or not) on an unknown date.
