Today’s Gospel is MT 7:21-29. The Saint of the Day is Cyril of Alexandria. Considered a great writer and thinker of his time, he also had a tumultuous history for his adherence to orthodoxy. He closed the churches of Novatian heretics and seized their sacred vessels. He expelled Jews from Alexandria who attacked Christians. In his later years, Cyril wrote treatises that clarified the doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation and that helped prevent Nestorianism and Pelagianism from taking long-term deep root in the Christian community. THEN I WILL DECLARE TO THEM SOLEMNLY, ‘I NEVER KNEW YOU. DEPART FROM ME, YOU EVILDOERS.’
