What makes human beings unique? What does it mean to be a person rather than a thing? Human beings have the ability to act with intentionality (Philosopher, Edmond Husserl). We have the ability to make choices. If man is truly free, God cannot exist. If God exists, man cannot be truly free(John Paul Sartre). Freedom means autonomy (the right or condition of self-government). Therefore, divine sovereignty and human autonomy cannot exist in the same universe. Therefore, Gods sovereign will is an irresistible force and the object (human being) will move at the exact moment he sets forth for an event to occur. For example, Moses was put in a basket as an infant and he just happen to float down the river where the Pharaohs daughter was bathing. Joseph was sold into slavery and wound up in the Pharaohs palace where eventually his brothers came begging for food during a famine. What man meant for evil, God used for his will and good and glory. (R.C. Sproul) Also, there are limits placed by God on human freedom. God said to Adam, you may eat of any tree in the Garden but the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. Therefore, mans will is not free, it comes with a price depending on if God approves of the behavior or action. Therefore mans will is not free he cannot self govern without consequence.
