Yesterday was a nightmare. A nothing-bad-at-the-end-of-the-day - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was a nightmare. A nothing-bad-at-the-end-of-the-day nightmare, but one that left me shaking, angry, vulnerable, embarrassed and amazed that I avoided creating a personal disaster. The story is I fell prey to a phone scam. I received a call where the caller claimed to be from the IRS, provided a badge # and a return phone # and declared that this was a courtesy call informing me that a warrant for my arrest had been issued for tax fraud and that I was a few hours away from the sheriff coming to my door and arrest me. The next hour was a chapter out of Kafka, too long to iterate here, but during it my life as I knew it was ending and I was terrified. Only near the end did I realize that I was being scammed and, in the last moment, pulled myself free before giving away a ton of money. This is a pervasive scam it turns out. Go to tigta.gov to read the scenario almost blow by blow to understand what happened, but the details of the experience would take a thousand words and could not convey the depths to which I was shaken. I then had to pull myself together and go to a commercial audition, from which it took me in rush hour TWO HOURS to get home! I was done. A wreck. I apologize to my dear friend Claire Bermingham, who I was supposed to see last night. I felt old and exhausted and the only therapy that worked was to watch an incredible end to a great World Series and be in bed by 9:00 with my beloved.
