https://youtube/watch?v=djR0Jzg_sFg Members of the Writing, Acting and Publishing Project for Youngster (WAPPY), Mark Mwangi (7), Shangwe Thomas (7), Marianne Deutsch-Bruce (8), Effie Quansah - George (10), Izoje Owaka (12), Ida Mwangi (12), Jai Blue Ellis-Crook (14) and Acquaye McCalman (19) read and performed their diverse material at the London Metropolitan Archives’ (LMA) first Spring Festival on Saturday, 12th April 2014. The audience (which included LMA archivist/ poet, Maureen Roberts, authors, Patrice Lawrence, Patrick Walker and Marlo Webster, WAPPY trustee, John Durston, London Literature Lounge Director, Anjan Saha, performance Artiste, Akuba, and educator/director of studies, Anthony Smith) and families of the youngsters, were completely blown away! Most of the material was created in current Building Bridges WAPPY workshops, or past workshops inspired by the works of Charles Dickens, tales about the Ghanaian mythical spider, Anansi, and themes which engaged with the wonders of nature, Love and the politics of identity and colourism. Jai Blue (also her stage name) launched her new song ‘Cold Smile’ movingly, while Acquaye busted his rap ‘Dark’, and newest member, Marianne, expressed poetically her love for ‘WAPPY’, having joined a fortnight ago! For more on WAPPY see wappy.org.uk. Footage supplied by John Durston and thumbnail image supplied by Marlo Webster. Enjoy!
