------------------------------------- Wanting to justify himself, [a lawyer] asked Jesus, “. . . who is my neighbor?” - Luke 10:29 (NRSV) ------------------------------------- Such occurrences happen every day — people helping and being helped. Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan in answer to a question from one who sought to justify himself. At the end Jesus asked, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” (Luke 10:36, NIV) Of course, the correct answer is the one who helped, but the one in need was also a neighbor. The ones in need actually bring Christ to us so that we may minister to them by helping the “least of these.” We can be quick to help those in need — both the stranger and neighbor across the street — and be open as well to receive help when the Lord causes another person to come to our rescue. It’s godly to let the love of God show in mutual deeds of love. James A. Brunner (Arizona, USA). (theupperroom.org).
