------------------ Why must these people always plot to diminish the wonderful works of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi SON To Rivers People: Avoid Amaechi’s Monorail Death Trap The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has warned the people of Rivers state to steer clear of the Rivers monorail, saying it’s a death trap. Acrus Gibb, a technical partner to Mega Star Technical and Construction Company for the Rivers monorail project has written to the Rivers State Government and SON stating the dangers of mounting train coaches when structural and civil works are barely thirty percent complete and power is not in sight. Also Engineer Clive Arries, Project Manager and Civil Engineer at Acrus Gibb South Africa informed SON that the installation of the coaches midway is a violation of global practices, that a stationary train on a track beam will exert sheer forces on the column and the foundation, which will adversely affect and reduce the fifty years life span of the column. In response and adherence to Engineers Clive and Acrus Gibb’s warning, Dr Joseph Ikem, the Director General of SON has asked Rivers State Government to dismantle the coaches immediately. Following the instruction from the DG of SON, the Rivers State Government, through the Commisioner for transport, has halted the scheduled tour on Wednesday and pleaded with SON to be patient with the Government that they were unaware of the dangers the installation of the coaches would pose, stating that the installation was only temporary with the aim of giving a face lift to the project and to avoid demurrage payment on the coaches at Onne Port. It will be recalled that in a bid to score cheap popularity and dance to the public gallery, Gov Amaechi mooted the idea of the monorail in Port-Harcourt. Even prior to the arrival of the equipment, the rival APC had gone to town to announce the project even when nothing was on ground. And in a bid to save its face, it is running desperately to patch up at least a kilometer rail-line even against best practices and standard operating procedures, thereby trying to endanger the lives of the people. Even then, opponents have argued too that the monorail is just a public gimmick and a white elephant project whose impact would not be felt since it would not run or extend more than 5km or even convey more than the capacity of a fully loaded luxury bus. Can you people imagine how this man and his team reason? Who can now say the integrity of the Engineering designs and practices in all other projects (frauds) carried out by this guy? Please dont tell me a whole Rivers State have no engineers there in! Can 007 stop dancing naked in the rain and resign? Thats an advice cos I can see the clouds forming and even lions know what battles not to fight!
