-- ABC’s hit television series “Scandal” is getting the soundtrack treatment. ABC Studios and Concord Music Group’s Stax Records are teaming up to release "Songs From Scandal: Music for Gladiators" (Sept. 3). The 12-track set showcases the classic ‘70s music featured throughout seasons one and two, coinciding with season two’s Sept. 3 DVD release. Songs include Edwin Starr’s “War” and Rufus’ “Tell Me Something Good,” complemented by liner notes penned by “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes. -- Songwriter/producer/keyboardist Clarence McDonald will appear in Los Angeles Civil Court on Aug. 19 regarding a lawsuit he has filed against Capitol Records. At issue are unaccounted and unpaid royalties for a sample of “I’m In Love,” used in Erykah Badu’s 2007 single “Honey.” McDonald originally wrote and produced “I’m in Love” for Nancy Wilson. The track is featured on Wilson’s 1978 album "Music on My Mind." McDonald’s production and musician credits include collaborations with Bill Withers (“Lovely Day”) and the Emotions (“Best of My Love”). McDonald also co-wrote Deniece Williams’ “Silly,” used in Monica’s 2010 hit single “Everything to Me.” -- The “Soul Train” steams right along, this time in book form. Music aficionado and Roots frontman Questlove pays homage to the cultural phenomenon in “Soul Train: The Music, Dance, and Style of a Generation” (Harper Design; Oct. 22; $45). The hefty tome (240 pages) comes jam-packed with exclusive photos, a foreword by Gladys Knight, a preface by Nick Cannon, a journey through the most memorable episodes and recollections from the “Soul Train” conductor himself, Don Cornelius. -- In other book news, background singer Kevin Owens steps into the spotlight with a new book, “So Amazing: Through the Eyes of Kevin Owens” (So Amazing Touring Group LLC; Oct. 29). Slated for release this fall, the memoir chronicles Owens’ 32 years onstage and behind the scenes with Luther Vandross and Ray, Goodman & Brown. The book is also being adapted as a theater musical slated to go on the road in 2014.
