- About Forbidden Phones - Without any condescension from people saying I wonder how our parents ever survived, weve all got to remember how technology has literally taken over the world, for better or worse. We rely on it a lot, Hell, what are we even talking on? A computer with internet over a website page. There was a time when a kid could simply go to his friends house after school and call home from there once to tell his parents where he is and that was it. But now, a kid would probably text before the end of a school day secretly under his desk. We rely on it so much that most feel we cant have it taken away in case of any emergences in the world, or simply for some people if we receive an invite out somewhere, and would be scared that if we didnt reply straight away the friend would think we were being rude. Technology has made us change our emotions too, even thinking something like that. Yes, all of our parents grew up with no mobile phones, Im lucky to be probably in the last generation to have a traditional childhood where there was more than playing multiplayer on a game console with a friend. But a good thing about it is we can contact anyone whenever we need it. Im not a parent, but I understand why parents would want to keep in contact with their child. Because I would want to as well. Or someone who has to be contactable 24/7 due to possible family member illnesses. I understand that too. But they will, Im certain of it, allow people who want to, to use their phones when they like. What Secret Cinema is trying to do, and I do not think they are trying to be deceptive or mean or anything like that, is they want us to be in the past. They want us to literally travel back in time where phones didnt exist. They want us to see what it was like. For me, I was hesitant to when I found out, but now, I do not care. Im happy they are doing that. I can confess that it feels weird when my phone is not in my pocket, so I have to have it with me all the time. Most of the time I use it to simply check the time, and I should wear my watch, just like people in 1955 would have. But these six hours without it. Without hearing Facebook pop or see that someone has followed me on Twitter, or an BBC News update talking about bad things that is happening. It will be nice not to know for once. For a single six hours, that maybe that might even make me leave my phone at home sometimes. It will be a nice experience, and mean we can all talk to each other about the event, instead of calling our friends and family and telling them or tweeting how great it is.
