- Figa Figa - I used to practice and do the Figa on my R and dominant arm until I injured my R shoulder and had to go through a surgery to reattached my torn Labrum. Even though I returned to almost full capacity within the show I was performing at the time (Le Reve) and in my handstand training, it took me a very long time to be able to perform the Figa on the R arm again. In fact this happened around 2 months ago, a little more than 3 years after my injury and then surgery… I believe the reason for taking such a long time was a combination of some scar tissue that formed on my healing shoulder as well as the nature of this skill which is quite taxing on the shoulder. The Figa requires not only to push out quite intensely from the supporting arm/shoulder, but also to counter the rotation and twist of the body which is part of the skill. Because of my inability to practice the FIGA on my right arm, I decided to try and learn it on my L arm. As a result my Figa is now better and more comfortable to perform on my non dominant side. As I mentioned, a few weeks ago I was finally able to return to practicing the skill on the right side (without pain). What I learned... 1. 3 years post surgery... - TIME I guess does wonders (some times) and the time was finally right to reintegrate this skill on the R arm. 2. It’s been one year since I left the intense performance schedule of the show I had performed for 8 years and I can now focus most of my training on handstand and for better preparing my body for its stress..s. 3. I believe that the (kinetic) knowledge gained from learning the Skill (Figa in this case) on one side was transferred to the R side even though I did not practice the skill for nearly 3 years. PS: I do not recommend to learn this skill before being able to hold a solid straddle One armed handstand. It also requires a certain degree of flexibility (spinal twist and forward flexion) in order to perform it safely. Once figured out, this beautiful position is actually not so difficult to balance (relatively speaking…) Enjoy! Yuval https://youtube/watch?v=RDuGBjTFues&list=UUDSx-jVijM7kqiALil2BRGw
