- Free Intercultural, Interfaith Community Celebration, Open To All - Free Vegetarian Community Meal - Guided Meditation & Chanting with Music - Opportunity to Meet & Greet Local Community Guru Nanaks Free Kitchen (GNFK) will be hosting a community gathering on Saturday, July 5th, 2014 to bring together individuals and organizations of all faiths and backgrounds to celebrate and embrace peace and humanitarian values. The event, taking place at the Sukh Sagar Gurdwara Sahib at 347 Wood Street in Queensborough (New Westminster), will feature local musicians and speakers that will engage and guide the audience in chanting and meditation. For those who have not had an opportunity to visit a Sikh place of worship, or are not familiar with the community kitchen, this event offers a great opportunity for learning. Volunteers will be available on hand to guide visitors and explain the practices in English. The aim of the event is to bring together people from all walks of life, explain coordinators Charan Kaur and Navneet Kaur, and to celebrate two pillars of life -- selfless service and faith. The event will begin at 5:30pm with snacks, followed by meditation and chanting in various styles from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The event is open to people of all ages, cultures, faiths and backgrounds and there is no payment or registration required. A free, vegetarian communal meal will be served throughout the event on the first floor of the Gurdwara. Modest, comfortable attire is recommended. The practice of langar – the communal kitchen and seva – the selfless service of humanity; philosophies taught by our first Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji many hundreds of years ago. For the Sikh community, this project is not missionary in nature, instead it is an opportunity for us to extend this true Sikh spirit of helping those in need regardless of caste, colour, creed, and economic status.
