- IFFFFFFF you live out in the boonies like we do, you live WITH, AROUND, AND SIDE-BY-SIDE with some interesting and sometimes destructive critters. I found THIS OUT yesterday on my sheltered outdoor workbench, where wood boring Carpenter Bees, usually referred to IN ERROR as Bumble Bees, bored .45 caliber holes in our barns, eves, and other exposed wooden structures......... I TRY to control them by treating their holes to eliminate the eggs / larvae, BUT I guess I missed this one. The chewing/grinding noise of the larvae attracts the keen hearing of our Piliated Woodpeckers, and they come where ever they can to peck out and consume the larvae. The Pileated is a HUGE woodpecker capable of moving large volumes of wood with their powerful pecking. Hope this one enjoyed his lunch LOL
