His other pull fees have been waived by AACAC. · UPDATE: Tonka was DNA tested and found to be a half American Bulldog, half American Staffordshire Terrier mix (details below). · Tonka did well with people around food and being near other dogs. He was described as “probably too hyper” around cats. · Received bordetella and distemper vaccinations (all dogs do). · Arrived Nov. 26 as a stray; interacts daily with volunteers. · Tonka weighs 54 pounds and is about 1 – 2 years old. Tonka, who was a stray, was given his shelter name when he first arrived and we knew practically nothing about him, but it’s turned out to be oh-so-appropriate: This fellow is absolutely passionate about playing with toys. In fact, as you can see from the attached, it’s hard to get a video of him doing anything but that. When he sees another dog, he tries to show them his latest favorite toy, but when they don’t match his enthusiasm for inanimate objects, he just turns away and keeps on playing by himself. “He seems fine with other dogs,” one volunteer said. “Wags his tail, does the little crouch to play and then loses interest and looks for toys.” Clearly, a nice big yard with a ton of toys in it would be Tonka’s idea of heaven on earth. Tonka was DNA tested and found to be an American Bulldog/American Staffordshire Terrier mix. One of his parents was a full American Bulldog and the other was half Staffordshire Terrier and half “mixed breed.” His DNA test results will be included in his paperwork. Can you give Tonka what he wants most for Christmas: no, not another toy, but a happy new home with humans who love him! You, our rescue partners, are appreciate each and every day by the staff and volunteers at AACAC, who wish you a happy holiday season. Please share Tonka’s plea. His other pull fees have been waived by AACAC. · Merlin did well with people around food and being near other dogs but may be “too hyper” around cats. · Received bordetella and distemper vaccinations (all dogs do). · Arrived Nov. 29 as a give-up; interacts daily with volunteers. · Merlin weighs 62 pounds and is about 7 months old. Merlin has a coat that’s so awesomely patterned that he looks as if he’s wrapped in a swirling magician’s cloak of many colors. On top of that, he has a tiny white tip at the end of his tail that is absolutely mesmerizing once you notice it. All in all, definitely a magical Merlin. Although he’s only seven months old, he’s a big guy already, and so it’s easy to forget that he’s still a puppy. On his first trip outside with a volunteer after passing his behavior assessment, “at first, he was mouthy and jumpy – then after five minutes he smelled everything in sight and then played nicely with the ball, the lobster and the yellow ring,” she reported. “His mouthiness is just curiosity, because he stopped as soon as you told him to. He loves to give kisses and the tiny white spot on the tip of his tail is adorable. Very sweet pup.” Merlin was given up by a family who had him for four months; a family member said a seven-year-old child in the household was allergic to him. Merlin also lived with another, smaller dog and they “played all the time.” They reported that he is housebroken, “loves to play,” sleeps when left alone and not fearful of anything. Can you say the magic words that will cause Merlin to disappear from our shelter? Happy holiday and a wonderful 2015 from all of us at AACAC to all of you. Please share Merlin’s plea. SAMMY: Please Help a Hard-Luck Male Poodle Mix at Anne Arundel County Animal Control, Millersville, MD – Sherry Durm ***PLEASE LOOK AT SAMMY’S VIDEO*** · FREE TO A RESCUE: Sammy’s microchip and heartworm test will be paid by Friends of AACAC thanks to a generous supporter. His other pull fees have been waived by AACAC. · Received bordetella and distemper vaccinations (all dogs do). · Arrived Dec. 1 as a stray; interacts daily with volunteers. · Sammy weighs 17 pounds and is about 8 - 9 years old. Sammy just hasn’t been able to catch a break lately. First he got lost and showed up at our shelter scared, dirty and in dire need of a grooming. When our volunteer groomer began blow-drying him after a nice bath in her grooming van, Sammy had a seizure – during which he clamped down on the groomer’s finger. So it was off to a mandatory 10 days in doggy quarantine (in the cat isolation room, where he ignored both the resident felines and a yappy dog next to him). He has not had a repeat of the seizure. His quarantine time is now behind him, and all Sammy wants now is to hoof it outta this place as soon as possible. Can you fulfill Sammy’s simple wish? The staff and volunteers at AACAC thank you for all that you do and wish you a happy holiday season and an outstanding 2015. Please share Sammy’s plea.
