--Small-Minded Opinions from Small and Insignificant People-- Im not stupid, or oblivious; I know most people think I am weird, strange or (if theyre trying to be polite) different. Im empathic; I can literally feel their judgement. They dont have to say a word, I can tell what theyre thinking. Im not saying I am telepathic (Im not). I dont have to be. Most people arent nearly as clever as theyd like to think. In fact, the vast majority are painfully transparent. Anyway, I prefer the term unique, and thank the multi-verse for that. I wouldnt have it any other way. Have you ever stopped and looked, objectively, at what passes for normal in our society? I mean really taken a good, long, in-depth look at the concept of normalcy and fitting-in? What does it even mean to fit in? Who do you have to be in order to be accepted? Who is it that sets these arbitrary standards? What is this mold that I am supposed to squeeze and contort my self into? Do you honestly believe that being accepted by any particular group is really going to make you any happier than simply being true to yourself? Even if you do believe acceptance in a clique is the only way to live; which one do you choose? There are so many, different ones, after all. It seems to me, most people have simply failed to develop past the high-school mentality of having to belong to a clique. In my opinion, they lack maturity and courage. Ultimately, it is fear that causes the impulse to belong to a group in the first place. Fear of being alone, fear of being ridiculed, fear of being made an outcast. Once accepted into their chosen group, they adopt the appropriate group-think for that particular group. Every decision in their life then, is made in an effort to conform to the prevailing trends of their fellow group members. Theyre perfectly willing to say and do anything simply because they are afraid of being ostracized from their beloved group. So, in essence, it is their own fear and inability to think for themselves that, not only retards their own personal growth and development, but also turns them into automatons. Like primitive robots, theyre merely carrying out the simple commands of their narrow programming parameters. How epidemically boring! What a waste of life! Id prefer to be true to myself and spend the rest of my life alone, rather than conform to anybody elses arbitrary standards of acceptance. As Jimi Hendrix sang, Im the one who has to die when its time for me to die. Everyone has a right to their opinions. Its your choice to be critical and judgmental. Just remember: Your small-minded opinions (and your entire existence, for that matter) are like dust in the wind; here one minute and gone the next. ©2012
